Clapp’s Favorite is one of the most enjoyable early pears when harvested at precisely the right stage. Its attractive fruit becomes melting, exceptionally juicy, sweet and aromatic after a few days indoors. We would choose it to open the season before Bartlett. Its weakness is clear: the pears ripen rapidly, bruise easily and have virtually no worthwhile storage life.

Description

Clapp’s Favorite is a popular American pear, mainly used for eating fresh but can also be used for cooking. The flesh is juicy and sweet.

As with most dessert pears, be sure to pick the fruits before they are fully ripe rather than leaving them on the tree, allow them to ripen fully in a fruit bowl.
