Asian pears are pears, not crosses between apples and pears

Asian pears, commonly known as nashi pears, belong to the genus Pyrus like European pear trees.

Their rounded shape and crisp flesh can resemble an apple, but they are not hybrids between apples and pears.

Most cultivated Asian pears descend principally from Pyrus pyrifolia and related Asian pear species.

Their eating texture is very different from that of a melting European dessert pear.
