Asian Pear ‘Taigan Beauty’ is a rare pear whose exact pomological identity remains uncertain under this spelling.
The name appears to correspond to the Russian expression Taezhnaya Krasavitsa, meaning ‘Beauty of the Taiga’. Russian literature uses this expression in connection with the Ussurian pear, Pyrus ussuriensis, a very hardy pear native to northeastern Asia. However, we have not found a sufficiently precise germplasm or cultivar record proving that our accession is a formally registered cultivar of that name.
Ussurian pears are notable for exceptional winter hardiness and strong growth. Their fruit can vary considerably in size and eating quality and is often used both fresh when fully ripe and for processing.
Until we can verify the identity from fruit and further documentation, we prefer not to assign a precise harvest period, flavour profile, pollination group or disease-resistance rating to ‘Taigan Beauty’. It is offered primarily as a rare collector’s pear for observation and evaluation.
