Chojuro is more impressive for flavour than appearance. Beneath its rustic bronze skin, the crisp flesh develops a mild, rich and slightly caramel-like character, more distinctive than many yellow-skinned Asian pears. The fruit is best allowed to ripen fully on the tree. Its texture can be slightly gritty, and storage life is shorter than that of the best late cultivars.
