Deveci is the cultivar to choose when exceptionally large, late pears are the priority. Its fruit can become enormous, with firm, juicy and sweet flesh, and stores for several months under refrigeration. Thinning helps achieve impressive size without exhausting the tree, while heavily laden branches may need support. A sufficiently long autumn is valuable for bringing this late crop to full maturity.

Description

Deveci is a large eating pear, thought to originate from Turkey.

The huge pears can weigh over 1kg each, and as a result the tree may take on a pendulous habit as it ages.

The pears ripen very late – usually at the end of October or early November, making this a good variety for extending the fresh pear season. They can also be kept for several months.
