Colapuis is an excellent multipurpose apple from northern France, suitable for fresh eating, cooking, juice and even cider. Its dark red fruit has a pleasant balance of sweetness and acidity. Picked in late October or early November, the apples improve after several weeks in storage. Its strength lies in versatility rather than an exceptionally intense dessert flavour.

Description

Colapuy is a late-season dessert apple from northern France where it is still found in old orchards. The tree has a reputation for good disease resistance and excellent cold-hardiness, but also a tendency towards biennial bearing.

The dark red apples have a well-balanced sweet / sharp flavor. They are picked in late October / early November, and are at their best after storage for 1-2 months.

Colapuy, also known as Colapuis, is thought to be have been brought to northern France from the Crimea in the 19th century by a returning soldier, Nicholas Dupuis.
