Marie Ménard, also known as Sains Richaumont, is a productive and reliable bittersweet cider apple suited to traditional orchards in northern Europe. Its fairly large fruit produces sweet, mildly bitter and structured juice. The open-growing tree is particularly easy to train as a standard. Apples are harvested in mid-October and usually pressed during November.

This is a very regular and productive variety. Its growth habit is easy to manage as a standard tree, as the branching is not too dense.
The apples are picked in mid-October and are usually pressed during November.
Disease sensitivity is average for scab, and the variety is not very sensitive to powdery mildew.
Flowering is mid-season. Marie Ménard is a poor pollinator itself, but can be pollinated by Roquet Rouge.
Marie Ménard is a reference cider apple variety from Côtes-d’Armor and can make up 50 to 60% of a cider apple blend.
In Thiérache, this variety was found at Sains-Richaumont. In the Nord and Aisne departments, it is therefore more often known under the name Sains Richaumont.
