Pink Pearl is a historic Californian cultivar with pink blossom and bright pink flesh marbled with white. Crisp but distinctly sharp, it is more convincing in sauces, baking, juice or pink cider than as a dessert apple. Harvest begins in the second half of August, and the delicate fruit stores poorly. The variety is susceptible to apple scab.

Description

Pink Pearl was one of the first pink-fleshed apples to become available, and is perhaps the best-known.

Although the apples can be eaten fresh, this is really a variety for the kitchen – the pink-flesh makes a distinctive appearance for apple sauce or cider.
