Stark Crimson is the highly attractive red form of Clapp’s Favorite. Its summer pears develop smooth, fine-textured, exceptionally juicy and mild flesh with a subtle floral aroma. They should be picked while firm and allowed to ripen indoors. The fruit develops quickly and bruises easily, so we would choose it for fresh eating and colour rather than storage.

Description

Stark Crimson is also known as Red Clapp’s Favorite, or Kalle and is an attractive red-flushed early-season pear.

It is best to pick the pears towards the end of summer, as soon as the colour develops, and bring them indoors to ripen. As a guide, this variety is likely to ripen 1-2 weeks ahead of Bartlett.
