Luche Apple Tree is a very old apple variety traditionally grown as standard trees in the Pas-de-Calais region of northern France. It is appreciated as an excellent early-season dessert apple with a crisp, juicy and aromatic flesh.
The fruit is generally green-yellow at maturity, sometimes lightly washed with orange. Luche is mainly eaten fresh, but can also be used for juice thanks to its aromatic and juicy character.
The apples are harvested from late August to early September in northern France, with a short eating season typical of early apples. They are best enjoyed soon after picking rather than stored for long periods.
The tree is very vigorous, with strong dense branching and relatively slow cropping. It is best suited to half-standard or standard forms rather than very dwarf trees.
Luche is an interesting heritage apple for traditional orchards and collectors looking for a regional northern French variety with strong flavour and local character.
