Baguette Violette is an excellent regional apple for family orchards in northern Europe. Very hardy, productive and generally resistant to disease, it produces apples with a pleasant balance of sweetness and acidity. We also value its long, slightly late blossom period. The fruit should be eaten relatively quickly, as acidity falls and the flesh soon becomes mealy.

The apples have an excellent sweet / sharp balance, but do not keep for long and are best eaten within a few weeks after they ripen in late September.

Variety characteristics

Variety origin

Very local old variety from the Thiérache area of Aisne, found at Lemé, Ohis and Étréaupont, with no findings outside this area according to genetic analyses.
