Reinette de Flandre is one of the most convincing regional cultivars for a family orchard. Its crisp, exceptionally juicy apples have a fine balance of sweetness and acidity and are suitable for eating, juice and cooking. The tree is easy to train and crops regularly. As a triploid it needs two pollinators, and damp sites can increase mildew and canker problems.

Description

Reinette de Flandres is an old apple variety which appears to have originated in southern Belgium or northern France, where it is still commonly found.

Like many older varieties it is essentially dual-purpose – crisp and juicy for eating fresh, but also very suitable for juicing, and can be baked or used in preserves.
