Ontario is an old Canadian dual-purpose apple variety, closely related to the well-regarded American variety called Northern Spy, and mainly used for cooking.
Ontario is a large, late Canadian apple with juicy, sharp and lightly aromatic flesh. It is suitable for fresh eating and juice but is particularly good for cooking, breaking down into an excellent purée. The apples store well but bruise easily. As a triploid and poor pollinator, the tree requires two other compatible apple varieties nearby.
