Red Sentinel Crab Apple Tree is a highly ornamental crab apple variety appreciated for its abundant spring blossom and spectacular display of glossy red fruits in autumn and winter.
Pink flower buds open into fragrant single white flowers in spring, attracting bees and other pollinating insects. The tree then produces clusters of small cherry-like red crab apples, around 2.5 cm in diameter, which often remain decorative on the branches well into winter.
Red Sentinel has a broadly upright habit and generally reaches around 5 to 7 metres in height depending on growing conditions. It is suitable for gardens, orchards and landscape planting, where it provides strong seasonal interest.
Like many crab apples, Red Sentinel is also useful as a pollinator for nearby apple varieties flowering at the same period. Its abundant blossom and attractive fruit make it both practical and ornamental in mixed fruit plantings.
