Cornelie is a traditional an early-season dessert pear. The pears are usually ripe towards the end of August, when the skin starts to turn from green to yellow. Pick them while they are still hard and leave them to ripen in a fruit bowl.

History

Cornelie was raised by the famous Belgian pear enthusiast Jean-Baptiste Van Mons, who lived in Louvain in the 1840s and was responsible for developing many of the traditional dessert pears we know today.
