Cornelie is a traditional an early-season dessert pear. The pears are usually ripe towards the end of August, when the skin starts to turn from green to yellow. Pick them while they are still hard and leave them to ripen in a fruit bowl.
Our Variety Assessment
Its strengths, growing requirements and the conditions in which it performs best.
Cornélie is an old Belgian early pear we would choose for flavour rather than storage. Picked firm in late August, it rapidly becomes melting, mild, exceptionally sweet and pleasantly aromatic. It opens the season with a genuine dessert pear. Ripeness must be checked daily, however, as the fruit stores poorly and quickly loses its fine texture when overripe.
