La Clermontoise Apple Tree, also known as Reinette Tardive d’Englefontaine, is an old French apple variety from the Oise region, propagated by Jules Labitte near Clermont.
The fruit is fairly large to large, often wider than high, with greenish-yellow skin partly covered by broad russet patches. The white flesh is fine, crisp and aromatic, with a lively, perfumed flavour typical of good reinette apples.
La Clermontoise is mainly used as a dessert apple, but its firm texture and aromatic character also make it suitable for kitchen use. The fruit has excellent keeping qualities and can be stored from winter into early spring, often from January through March or April under good conditions.
This variety is an interesting choice for heritage orchards and collectors looking for a rustic late-keeping French apple with strong regional character.
