Panneterie is an old French cider apple originating from Northern France. It has long been appreciated by cider makers for its large fruits, rich juice and excellent contribution to traditional cider blends.
The apples have bittersweet flesh with plenty of sugar and pleasant tannins, producing juice that adds body, complexity and depth to fermented ciders. Harvest usually takes place in the second half of September, with optimum pressing maturity reached during October.
The tree is vigorous, hardy and well suited to traditional orchards. As a triploid variety, Panneterie is a poor pollinator and should always be planted alongside compatible pollinating apple varieties.
