Verdun d’Hiver is a useful regional variety for extending the apple season through winter. Its regularly shaped, good-sized apples have juicy flesh with an excellent balance of sweetness and acidity. They are equally suitable for fresh eating and juice. Picked in October, the fruit needs time in storage and reaches its best eating quality from December onwards.

Description

Verdun d’Hiver apple tree produces good-sized, uniform apples with a very good balance between sweetness and acidity.

The fruit is juicy and suitable both for pressing into juice and for eating fresh.

The apples are picked in October and are eaten from December.

This variety can be susceptible to scab, but is not very sensitive to powdery mildew.

Flowering is mid-season. It pollinates well with Cabarette and Colapuis.

This apple tree is noted as an excellent pollinator and was widely grown in the region for this quality.

We produce this grafted apple tree on several rootstocks, which influence the final size of the mature tree. It is available in several tree forms depending on availability.
