Griotte de Vieux-Condé suits fruit gardens and growers looking for cherries for pies, preserves or drinks. Its small fruit is tender, highly aromatic, tart and slightly bitter, with plenty of character. We recommend it mainly for processing rather than mild fresh eating. Ripening is gradual and requires several pickings.

Description

Vieux-Condé sour cherry tree produces small cherries of the griotte type. The fruit is acidic, soft, slightly bitter and very aromatic.

These cherries are especially well suited to processing. They make excellent cooked preparations, pies, jams and fruit brandies.

Harvest takes place gradually at the end of June. The cherry season can then continue with varieties such as Hedelfingen.

Flowering is early. Griotte de Vieux-Condé pollinates well with Early Rivers.

This variety was found in the Scarpe plain, in northern France.

We produce this grafted cherry tree on several rootstocks, which influence the final size of the mature tree. It is available in several tree forms depending on availability.
