Cœur de Pigeon Cherry Tree is an old bigarreau-type sweet cherry variety, appreciated for its distinctive heart-shaped fruit and firm, crunchy texture.
The cherries are medium to large depending on conditions, with bright red to carmine skin and pale yellow flesh. They are sweet, juicy and pleasant to eat fresh, with the firm texture typical of traditional bigarreau cherries.
This vigorous and fertile variety generally ripens in June to early July depending on climate. It is often described as partially self-fertile, but fruit set is improved by planting compatible pollinators nearby, such as Burlat, Napoléon or Reverchon.
Cœur de Pigeon is an interesting heritage cherry for traditional orchards and gardens, valued for its original fruit shape, good eating quality and old regional character.
