Hedelfingen is an old-fashioned dark red / black sweet cherry, which ripens late in the cherry season.
It is thought to originate from Germany in the 18th or 19th century.
Despite its age Hedelfingen has many of the features modern growers expect. It crops regularly and reliably from a young age, is cold hardy, reasonably resistant to fruit splitting, and produces a tidy tree which is easy for hand-picking.
Hedelfingen needs to be pollinated by another compatible sweet cherry. Good choices include Blanc Nez, Gros Bigarreau de la Groise, Blanche d'Harcigny.
