De La Toussaint Sour Cherry Tree is a remarkable and unusual cherry variety, capable of producing sour cherries over a very long season. Unlike most cherry trees, it can flower and fruit progressively, with cherries harvested from July until around All Saints’ Day, depending on weather conditions.
The first crop, produced from the main spring flowering, is usually the most abundant. Later in the season, production becomes more scattered but continues over an exceptionally long period, making this variety highly distinctive among cherries.
The fruit is a true sour cherry: small, juicy and pleasantly acidic, well suited to fresh tasting for lovers of tart fruit, as well as preserves, desserts, syrups and culinary use.
De La Toussaint flowers from early to mid-season and pollinates well with varieties such as Early Rivers. In frost-prone areas, grafting onto a productive rootstock such as Gisela can help increase flowering and improve the chance of obtaining a crop despite possible spring frost damage.
Our De La Toussaint sour cherry trees are supplied bare-root and are available on different rootstocks and in several forms, allowing the choice of vigour and adult tree size according to the planting situation.
