Fausset has the qualities of a dependable production cultivar: vigorous growth, reasonably early bearing and abundant firm pears containing exceptionally juicy, sweet-tart flesh. Its juice is useful in blends, particularly with Plant de Blanc. Cropping may become irregular when the tree carries too heavily. We would choose it for a traditional orchard where total juice production genuinely matters.

Description

Fausset is a traditional perry (pear cider) variety from Normandy in north west France. It is one of the varieties used in the production of traditional perry in the named region (appellation d’origine controlee) of Domfront.

It is one of the easier and more reliable perry pear varieties, suitable for most situations. It is disease-resistant and suitable for no-spray or organic production.

The trees are natually long-lived when grown on vigorous rootstocks, and make an impressive sight in the landscape.
