Kuganskaya suits sunny gardens and low-input growing. We recommend it for large, lightly ribbed fruit that is easy to peel and has a distinctive spicy fragrance. It is excellent for cooking and can also be eaten raw in thin slices when fully ripe. Good disease tolerance is valuable, although the flesh remains firmer when autumn warmth is limited.

Description

Kuganskaya quince tree produces large quinces that are fairly easy to peel, as the fruit is not strongly ribbed.

The fruit has a very pronounced, spicy fragrance. One of its particular qualities is that it can be eaten raw when fully ripe, especially sliced very thinly to reduce the spongy texture typical of quince.

Kuganskaya is harvested in November and can be stored until December.

Quince is generally a fruit used for processing, where it reveals its full aroma. Its skin is rich in pectin, making it well suited to jams and useful in mixtures with other fruits.

This variety has good resistance to entomosporium leaf spot. It is fairly hardy and easy to grow without particular treatment.

Flowering takes place in May, and Kuganskaya is not very exposed to late frost damage.

We produce this grafted quince tree on BA29 quince rootstock, available as a maiden tree or half-standard depending on availability.
