The potent spicy flavours of all quinces are best tamed by cooking, however Muskatnaja is unusual in that it can also be eaten raw. Even so, don't try to eat it like an apple - it is best to slice the flesh thinly and taste a slice at a time, or add the slices to a fresh fruit salad.
