Aromatnaya is a heavy-cropping self-fertile quince.
Although primarily a fruit for cooking with, Aromatnaya is also one of the few quinces that can be eaten raw.
The fruits should be picked and then left to ripen for a few days in a fruit bowl. They have a tropical flavour, somewhat reminiscent of melon or pineapple. They add an unusual touch if grated thinly on to fruit salads.
Aromatnaya is suitable for growing in warmer climates, such as southern Europe. It can be grown in more northern areas if you can provide a sheltered situation in full sun.
Aromatnaya originates from southern Russia.
