Sessile Oak (Quercus petraea) is a large long-lived native European oak appreciated for its elegant habit, strong timber qualities and ecological value. It develops a broad crown and robust trunk, making it one of the most important forest and landscape trees in Europe.
This species is well adapted to well-drained soils and generally tolerates drier conditions better than Pedunculate Oak (Quercus robur). Its foliage turns attractive golden-brown shades in autumn before persisting partially into winter on young trees.
Sessile Oak is widely planted in parks, woodlands and large landscapes, where it provides exceptional longevity, biodiversity value and impressive ornamental presence.
