Golden willow is most striking in winter, when its young bright-yellow stems bring colour to natural gardens, banks and windbreaks. Left unpruned, it develops rapidly into a broad tree exceeding 12 metres. Pollarding or coppicing is therefore the best way to produce abundant colourful shoots. Its vigorous roots and ultimate size make it unsuitable close to buildings, drains or small gardens.

Golden Willow (Salix vitellina) is a vigorous ornamental and countryside tree appreciated for its bright golden-yellow branches, which bring colour and light to the garden during winter.
This fast-growing willow develops an elegant natural habit and can eventually reach between 10 and 20 metres depending on soil conditions and available space. It is particularly well suited to naturalistic gardens, large landscapes and waterside planting.
Golden Willow can also be regularly pollarded or pruned as a traditional “têtard” willow to maintain a more compact size and encourage the production of colourful young shoots.
