Its strengths, growing requirements and the conditions in which it performs best.
Common osier is the classic willow for producing long, straight and flexible rods for basketry, living structures and woven hedges. Extremely hardy and fast growing, it thrives in moist ground and responds perfectly to annual coppicing. Without cutting it can reach 5–7 metres. Its vigorous root system and demand for moisture mean it needs adequate space away from drains and foundations.
