Goat Willow (Salix caprea) is a hardy deciduous tree appreciated for its early spring catkins, which provide an excellent source of nectar and pollen for bees and other pollinating insects.
This species has a different appearance from many common willows, with broader, slightly hairy leaves that give the tree a soft and natural character during the growing season.
Goat Willow generally reaches around 15 metres in height if left to grow freely, making it suitable for naturalistic planting, wildlife areas, hedgerows and larger gardens.
It can also be managed by regular pruning, pollarding or traditional “têtard” training to keep it at a more moderate size while encouraging fresh young growth.
Our Goat Willow plants are available as one- to three-year-old nursery plants, depending on current stock.
