Sainte Catherine plum tree is a very productive plum variety, bearing firm yellow-green plums of good quality for fresh eating and excellent quality for cooking.
The stone does not cling strongly to the flesh, which makes this plum practical for cooked recipes and preserving.
Sainte Catherine generally shows good resistance to diseases. Harvest begins in the first half of September, making it one of the later plums of the season.
Flowering is early to mid-season. This variety pollinates well with Madeleine.
Sainte Catherine is a very old variety originating from the Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse region. In 1928, it was mentioned by the departmental office of Aisne as one of the three most widely grown plums in the department. It is historically associated with Picardy and Belgium.
We produce this grafted plum tree on several rootstocks, which influence the final size of the mature tree. It is also available in several tree forms depending on availability.
On receipt, do not allow the roots to dry out. If you cannot plant immediately, heel the tree in temporarily. Plant in well-prepared soil, keeping the graft union above ground level, then water thoroughly after planting.
For the best establishment during the first year, keep a weed-free area around the young tree and water during dry periods.
