Count Althann’s Gage

Count Althan’s gage is an unusual and attractive red gage, often known by its alternative name Reine Claude Conducta.

It is widely regarded as one of the best-flavoured of all gages. It has a rich tangy sweetness, more reminscent of a high quality plum than a gage.

It stands apart from other gages in several respects – the fruits are larger, and while most gages are green or yellow, Count Althann’s gage is an attractive dusky red pink colour.

This is without doubt one of the sweetest of all plums.
