Polka

Polka raspberry plant is a recent Polish variety producing bright red raspberries with good yield.

The berries are firm, flavourful and of good size, with good keeping quality after picking.

Polka is an everbearing raspberry. The first harvest takes place in June on the previous year’s canes, followed by a second cropping period from August to October on the current year’s canes.

This variety prefers cool, rather acidic soils. Mulching with fragmented ramial wood can help recreate conditions similar to a woodland edge and support good growth.

After fruiting, remove canes that have finished cropping and thin out surplus canes. For everbearing raspberries, two-year-old canes should be cut back to the base, while one-year-old canes can be shortened after their upper part has fruited.

An open pruning structure helps reduce disease pressure, including botrytis.

Polka is self-fertile, so a single plant can produce fruit.
