Josta suits gardens, home orchards and edible hedges with enough room, in moisture-retentive, well-drained soil. We recommend it for its hardiness, self-fertility, thornless growth and good disease resistance. The large, sharp-flavoured berries are excellent for processing. It is very vigorous and later than Anita, requiring space, while its fresh flavour may be too tart for some tastes.

Josta jostaberry bush produces fruits that visually resemble very large blackcurrants.
The flavour is similar to blackcurrant, with a tangy character, but the berries are larger. Their texture is closer to gooseberry, while keeping a blackcurrant aroma.
Josta is not sensitive to powdery mildew and is a very healthy, disease-resistant plant.
This variety ripens later than Anita.
Josta is self-fertile, so a single plant can produce fruit.
It is a hybrid between blackcurrant and gooseberry. Unlike gooseberry, jostaberry is thornless.
We supply Josta as a bush, with several branches starting from the base of the plant. Fruiting may be possible in the year of planting.
