Desert King needs rather different management from most figs because its valuable crop consists of brebas borne on the previous year’s wood. They are large and green, with sweet, honeyed pink flesh, making this an excellent choice where summers are short. Hard winter pruning should be avoided. Without the fig wasp, the later main crop usually drops before ripening.

Desert King Fig Tree is a highly regarded fig variety producing large green-yellow fruit with exceptionally sweet and aromatic flesh. The flavour develops rich honeyed notes with hints of strawberry when fully ripe.
This vigorous and reliable variety is particularly appreciated for its ability to produce successfully in cooler climates, including regions north of the Loire and parts of Belgium where many fig varieties struggle to ripen consistently.
The first crop, known as the breba crop, generally ripens from early August, followed by a second autumn crop during October under favourable conditions.
Desert King is considered a hardy and dependable fig variety with good disease resistance and strong productivity in temperate climates.
Our fig trees are container-grown. Plants supplied in air-pruning pots develop less tangled root systems, helping to improve establishment after planting.
