Starokijewskij is immediately recognisable by its asymmetrical, pear-shaped dark-red fruit. The juicy, aromatic flesh becomes highly enjoyable once completely ripe and remains excellent for cooking. The fruit holds well on the tree, making harvest easier. It should not be judged too early, as firm fruit retains considerably more acidity.

Starokijewkij is a mid / late season Cornelian cherry, ripening in early September. The dark red pear-shaped fruits can be used for both cooking and eating fresh.
