Ingrid Almond-Peach Hybrid Tree is an interesting almond variety resulting from a cross between almond and peach. Like the related variety Robijn, Ingrid is appreciated for producing good-quality almonds with excellent flavour, even in cooler climates where traditional almonds can be more difficult to grow.
The nuts have a hard shell and ripen early, usually around the end of August. Ingrid is self-fertile, meaning that a single tree can produce almonds without requiring another variety nearby for pollination.
This variety flowers very late for an almond, generally around early March, which helps reduce the risk of spring frost damage compared with earlier-flowering almond varieties. It is therefore particularly interesting for northern or cooler growing regions.
Ingrid is said to originate from Scandinavia and is valued for its ability to combine almond fruit quality with better adaptation to less Mediterranean climates.
For best results, plant Ingrid in a warm, sunny and sheltered position, ideally protected from cold winds and spring frosts. In northern climates, planting near a wall or in a well-exposed site can greatly improve flowering, fruit set and nut ripening.
Our Ingrid almond trees are grafted and trained in the nursery, then supplied bare-root in several forms and on different rootstocks according to the intended garden or orchard use.
