Rowan Tree (Sorbus aucuparia), also known as Mountain Ash, is a hardy native European tree appreciated for its light elegant foliage, white spring blossom and bright red autumn berries.
In spring, it produces clusters of creamy white flowers that attract bees and other pollinating insects. These are followed by abundant orange-red berries in late summer and autumn, which are highly appreciated by birds.
Sorbus aucuparia generally forms a small to medium-sized tree, suitable for gardens, hedgerows, woodland edges and naturalistic planting schemes. Its foliage turns attractive yellow to orange tones in autumn, adding further seasonal interest.
This robust species is easy to grow and adapts to a wide range of soils, including poorer or more acidic conditions. It is an excellent choice for biodiversity, wildlife planting and resilient landscape projects.
