Avijor almond tree produces generous crops of attractive, sweet and flavourful almonds.
This is a very productive variety, selected for almond growers.
Avijor is self-fertile, so a single tree can produce fruit. Flowering is late for an almond tree, around early March.
Harvest is early to mid-season, around late September.
Avijor was obtained by INRA in 1978 and registered in 1991. It is also known under the Lauranne name and comes from a cross between Ferragnès and Tuono.
Almond trees appreciate warmth and should be planted in a sunny, sheltered position, protected from wind and spring frosts. In northern climates, planting near a wall can help provide better growing conditions.
A healthy, ventilated site that is not too humid will also help limit disease pressure during flowering.
We graft and train our almond trees in the nursery, in open ground. They are then supplied bare-root, in several tree forms and on different rootstocks depending on availability.
