Madeleine is a versatile French plum producing blue-purple fruit slightly larger than a mirabelle. Its fine, juicy and highly aromatic yellow flesh separates readily from the stone. Without excessive sweetness, it is pleasant for fresh eating and reveals its fragrance particularly well in preserves, sauces and baking. The tree also shows generally good resistance to common plum diseases.

Description

Madeleine is a traditional French dark-blue dual-purpose plum. It can be used in the kitchen for both baking and in preserves.

For cooking, pick the plums slightly under-ripe. For eating fresh it is best to leave the plums on the tree until they are fully ripe.

This is a free-stone plum, the stone falls away easily from the flesh.
