Monsieur Hatif is a traditional dual-purpose plum variety, with blue / purple skin and golden flesh.
The plums are particularly juicy, with a fairly mild flavour, and ripen in early August - near the beginning of the main plum season. The stone comes away easily from the flesh.
Monsieur Hatif is well-known in northern France and Belgium, and appears to have originated in the 18th century. It is known in England as Early Orleans, and the Victoria fruit enthusiast Robert Hogg describes it as "A second-rate dessert plum, but excellent for culinary purposes".
Next deliveries: December 2024 - February 2025
Monsieur Hatif is easy to grow, partially self-fertile, and relatively untroubled by disease.
