Aureomarginatum Tulip Tree (Liriodendron tulipifera ‘Aureomarginatum’) is a beautiful variegated form of the American tulip tree, appreciated for its large distinctive leaves edged with golden yellow.
The foliage provides strong ornamental interest from spring to autumn. The golden margins are especially visible on young leaves, becoming softer green-yellow during summer before the tree turns attractive golden shades in autumn.
On mature trees, tulip-shaped flowers may appear in summer. They are greenish-yellow with orange markings and are often partly hidden among the foliage, but add further interest to older specimens.
This cultivar is generally smaller than the typical species, usually forming a medium to large tree suitable for parks, large gardens and specimen planting. It prefers fertile, moist but well-drained soil and a sunny to lightly shaded position.
