Wellington has the qualities of a dependable all-round mulberry: large dark-red to black fruit that is juicy and sweet yet lifted by useful acidity, equally enjoyable fresh or in preserves and baking. Ripening is extended enough to make the tree genuinely rewarding. It needs plenty of room, and the usual drawbacks of dark mulberries remain: delicate fruit, ground fall and persistent staining.
