Lavendel is a genuinely unusual white mulberry. It crops heavily, producing large pale berries that develop a lavender blush when fully exposed to the sun. Their gentle, delicate sweetness makes them particularly enjoyable fresh. Late budbreak is a useful advantage. The ripe berries drop quickly, however, so this cultivar is far better for immediate garden eating than for storage or transport.

Description

Lavendel mulberry tree is a very productive variety producing large white mulberries, which turn lavender in colour when fully ripe, especially on fruits exposed to the sun.

No particular disease issues are noted for this variety.

The harvest period is currently under evaluation.

Budbreak is late for a mulberry tree, helping it avoid late April frosts. It flowers progressively on the current season’s growth, so even if frost damages the plant, fruiting is not necessarily prevented; it is mainly delayed while the plant regrows.

Because it flowers on new growth, Lavendel can be pruned very hard, making it possible to control the height of the tree. It can also be managed as a pollarded tree.

The fruits fall to the ground soon after ripening, which can make the tree useful in settings such as a poultry run.

We propagate and grow this mulberry tree in the nursery, either grafted on Morus alba or from cuttings depending on the production batch, and offer it in several tree forms depending on availability.
