Shan is intended for growers who want genuinely impressive fruit. Its almost round, dark-red cornels rank among the largest in the collection and have juicy, flavourful flesh, suitable both fresh and processed. As with most cornelian cherries, complete ripening is essential: fruit picked while firm will taste unnecessarily sharp and underdeveloped.

Description

Shan Cornelian cherry tree (Cornus mas) produces dark red cornelian cherries that are very flavourful and juicy.

The fruits are spherical, and Shan is one of the larger-fruited spherical varieties. They are suitable both for fresh eating and for preserves.

Shan ripens in the normal Cornelian cherry season, from early September. The fruit can be kept for 3 to 4 weeks in cool storage.

The tree is naturally resistant to diseases and crops very regularly from year to year.

Budbreak and flowering occur very early, but the flowers have excellent frost resistance.

Shan is a Bulgarian variety.

We supply Shan as a grafted Cornelian cherry tree on seedling rootstock, grown in pot as a one-year plant, with an average height of around 1.4 m.
