Eremorange is one of the most interesting cold-tolerant citrus hybrids for culinary use. Its small fruit contains crisp, juicy vesicles with flavours between orange and lemon, useful whole, as zest or as a hardier alternative to finger lime. The fine foliage is also highly distinctive. The plant is thorny, and the fruit is more valuable in cooking than as a conventional dessert citrus.

Description

Eremorange Citrus Tree is an unusual hardy citrus appreciated for its small fruit, which can be used as a cold-hardy alternative to finger lime. The flesh is made up of small citrus pearls, with a softer acidity than lemon.

The zest is aromatic and can be used to bring mandarin-like fragrance to cooking, desserts, drinks and savoury preparations. The fruit is generally harvested in September, depending on climate and ripeness.

Eremorange is hardy to around -15°C once established and grown in favourable sheltered conditions. It is therefore an interesting choice for citrus enthusiasts looking for unusual hardy citrus varieties suitable for temperate climates.

The tree is thorny and has very fine, distinctive foliage, giving it strong ornamental value as well as culinary interest.

Our Eremorange trees are grafted onto different citrus rootstocks, including Citrumelo 4475, Poncirus Pomeroy and Poncirus Flying Dragon. These rootstocks influence vigour, cold tolerance, soil adaptation and fruit quality.

For best results, plant Eremorange in a warm, sunny and sheltered position, protected from cold winds. A wall, courtyard or greenhouse-like microclimate can greatly improve winter protection and fruit ripening.

Eremorange can also be grown long-term in a large container, provided it receives regular watering, feeding and winter protection when necessary.
