Maridonne Chestnut Tree is a French hybrid chestnut variety created by INRA from a cross between Sardonne and CA04, a Castanea crenata selection.
It produces very large marron-type nuts with good peeling qualities. The flavour is mild rather than strongly aromatic, making Maridonne particularly well suited to processing, cooking and traditional chestnut preparations.
Maridonne is a Castanea sativa × Castanea crenata hybrid, appreciated for its resistance to ink disease, a serious soil-borne disease that has caused major losses in European chestnut orchards since the 19th century.
The harvest takes place in November and the nuts have very good keeping qualities after picking. Budbreak is early, but the variety is considered relatively tolerant of spring frost compared with many classic fruit trees.
Our Maridonne chestnut trees are produced on their own roots and are available in several forms depending on current nursery stock.
