Basket Willow (Salix viminalis) is a vigorous fast-growing willow valued for its long, slender and flexible stems traditionally used for basket weaving and wickerwork.
The young shoots develop attractive olive-green to yellow tones and are produced abundantly each year. This species is particularly appreciated for traditional basketry, living willow structures and natural garden planting.
Salix viminalis generally reaches around 6 to 8 metres in height if left unpruned. It can also be regularly pollarded or managed as a traditional “têtard” willow to encourage the production of fresh flexible shoots suitable for weaving.
Our basket willows are available in several sizes and forms depending on current nursery stock.
