Tomuri is grown solely as a pollinator, but performs that role particularly well for Hayward because of its late flowering season. The vine produces no kiwifruit and is planted only to supply pollen to compatible female vines. One established plant can serve several large-fruited kiwis. It should not be regarded as a universal pollinator for every hardy kiwi species.

Tomuri is a male kiwi variety. It does not produce fruit, but is used as a pollinator for female kiwi plants.
Tomuri is a male kiwi of the large-fruited species Actinidia deliciosa. Although it does not produce fruit, its blossom will pollinate female kiwis of the same species.
For best results the female plants should be positioned within 5m-10m, and one male plant can pollinate 5-8 female plants.
Tomuri will also pollinate self-fertile kiwis of the same species – although self-fertile varieties do not require a pollinator, they will usually crop better in the presence of a male pollinator.
