Issai is the hardy kiwi to choose when there is room for only one vine. Self-fertile, relatively compact and quick to bear, it produces small, sweet, smooth-skinned fruit that can be eaten whole. Another hardy kiwi can nevertheless improve yield and fruit size. The berries remain small and may ripen unevenly within the same cluster.
